The 2009 Coronado Speed Festival race is fast approaching and we want you back for this exciting event! This annual celebration is the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation’s marquee event. It’s free for active duty military and their dependents and it’s the general public’s opportunity to come aboard an active military installation and thank the men and women of the military while viewing static displays, fly over’s, and going on ship tours.
I am looking forward to the race this year as we have made some changes to the race categories.
The 2009 Race Categories Will Be:
1. Formula Ford (1969-1972)
We will also have an exhibition show from the drifters and stunt motorcycle crew.
I am trying to be ‘green’ and instead of killing trees to send you information I am sending it to you over email.
Volunteer Meeting: Our welcome volunteer meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 29th at 3:30 pm Location is the San Diego Automotive Museum in Balsa Park. We will be meeting behind the building in the museum’s grass/picnic area. Light refreshments will be served. After the meeting we will be able to tour the museum. Please RSVP your attendance to David, Speed Festival Assistant at speediest@fleetweeksandiego.org.
Attached you will find: 1) Volunteer Application: If you have not filled out an application already please fill one out and send to David, Speed Festival Assistant at speediest@fleetweeksandiego.org or contact our Volunteer Chair Maggie Blumberg at maggie.blumberg@sbcglobal.net. Volunteers receive lunch (for the days you work) and passes into the event. 2) Car Show entry form: Enter your car for an opportunity to win a trophy and receive a gift pack. 3) Entry form for a chance to win a hot lap or a pace lap: (Only two prizes will be awarded. One prize will be a passenger in a race car for a hot lap on Friday and another prize will be a passenger in an official pace car for a pace lap on Saturday or Sunday. Prizes also include 2 general admission tickets and a T-Shirt for the 2009 event.) 4) RV application: If you would like to bring your RV and park it in the CCC. We will give volunteers a 50% discount on the fee for parking the RV in the event. You will not receive priority seating and front row spaces will be given to full paying customers. Please indicate that you are a volunteer on the RV application to receive the discount.
Car Club Corral Pass Request: If you are not already a part of a Car Club and have a car you would like to park in the Car Club Corral area. You need to request a vehicle pass with David, Speed Festival Assistant at speediest@fleetweeksandiego.org. Send him your name, address, type of car and a pass will be sent to you in August.
