Camee Edelbrock Looks Forward To The Speed Festival Once Again

Camee entered her first race in 1991, in which she raced her Dad's 1963 Corvette split window, one of six of its kind manufactured for racing; a very special car for Camee. Since then she has raced some of the most legendary tracks in the USA including Watkins Glen, Infineon Raceway and even Daytona.  At the time Camee entered the vintage racing world, she was the only woman in her class, and with that came a variety of challenges. Even though most of the guys treated her like a little sister, there were some male drivers that couldn't stand being passed by a woman. Then there was a conversation she had with a well-known NASCAR driver in which she asked him what he thought about women breaking into the NASCAR scene. He said that there was no way women could race at that level.

Comments like this or the occasional broken nail did not deter Camee from pursuing her passion - the one she had for racing vintage cars. She went on competing right along side the guys and beat them every chance she had. She enjoys vintage racing because it's competitive and it's a great way to show off the original muscle cars that helped to make her family's business, Edelbrock Corporation, what it is today.

Camee's successes have inspired many young girls to venture into the racing world as she has. "It's so nice talking to young fans at the tracks, especially the young girls, who look up to me, and are so excited to talk to a woman that races. One girl at a race came up to me with her father. She had a picture of my car she had made the night before in her hotel. She said, 'You are our favorite driver.' It was so sweet. It's these kinds of experiences that make this sport even more fun and very rewarding."

Camee reflects on the Coronado Speed Festival, and her participation, “Being able to race and help support our men and women in uniform is extraordinary. We are so proud of them and are happy to lend our support.”

The Speed Festival Adds Drifting To The Agenda

San Diego based Drift Circuit is set to host an exciting drifting exhibition at the Coronado Speed Festival. Six of Drift Circuit's best drivers will suit up to bring fans a high-powered show, demonstrating skillful mastery of both speed and movement. The exhibition will take place on the main track on September 27 & 28 during the lunchtime hour.

Drifting is an un-timed freestyle motor sport that is judged by achieving the maximum sideways angle, and speed in the corner. Drifters gain maximum points by striking the proper clipping point, and taking a favorable line that connects one drift smoothly into the next.

In other words, drifters deliberately control their cars to slide sideways at high-speeds, aiming for the maximum points through stylized movements and skilled maneuvering techniques. Major consideration is given to style and crowd appeal. Originating on twisty, narrow, mountain roads in Japan, teams and individuals would compete for respect and the glory of being number one on the mountain.
