SoCal SAAC was well represented at the May Silver State Classic open road race with members Steve Prewit, Martin Wilson, Virgil Benton and Craig Wright attending. We competed in the 0-100-0 event, the 1 mile drag race, and the 150 MPH category of the Open Road challenge. The point of the Open Road event for some, is to see how close to your target speed you can complete the 90 miles course. For others it is just about driving fast on an open road.

The cars staging up for the mile drag race. Steve hit 160 mph and Craig made 165. The race was held at 6400 feet elevation so all cars were about 20% down on power.

There was a parade through the town of Ely Saturday night. One of the more unusual cars was the "original" General Lee, still owned by the actor that drove it for the TV show. Since it was Virgil's favorite show during the 70's, he had to have his photo taken with "Bo" and the car. This is the car that was on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and got a high bid of over $9,000,000. There must be a lot of wealthy "Dukes of Hazard" fans out there. The final bid turned out to be a fraud, but the second bidder was real at $9,000,000. The auction is being rerun in the near future.

This is at the start of the 90 mph run at 150. We were the 3rd and 4th cars started and were finished before 8:45.
