The weather this year was great, 70-75 degrees in the afternoon. They split
the track on Saturday into an East and West track. I was a little apprehensive
about this but it worked out perfectly. The Novices were on the east track,
which was shorter, slower and easier to learn, while the more advanced drivers
were on the West Track. For the last run on Saturday, the whole track was
opened up to slow speed drive around by the Novices so they could start
to get a feel for the large track that was going to be used all day Sunday.
This means that they only had to learn the west half as they already had
dozens of laps on the east side from Saturday. They weren't using the bus
stop on the back straight so it was a long and fast section of the track.
I think I got to 130-140 while driving Jeff's car for a session. |

This is Minh's
self built and self designed Lotus 7 type style car. I weighs 1000#'s and
and uses a 140 HP 1000cc Kawasaki motorcycle engine. Very cool car and always
receives lots of attention wherever it goes. |

Tom
Brooks brought his always very good looking FIA 289 all the way from Arizona,
a 12 hour drive each way but said it was way worth it. |

Tom
has been to a few COCOA events at Willow Springs. I think I count 14 window
stickers. |

This
is Jeff Hixson in one of his less proud moments. In the top photo is is
just pulling into "Black Flag" after leaving the track in a somewhat
less than elegant manner. No damage so they sent him back out. |

Here is our
fearless leader, Bob Marek with his trusty '67. He was having fun running
his car and helping out other drivers on the track. |
 |
This is Guy
Fugiwara's S2000. He is a friend of Minh's and mine who lives in Temecula
and has been on several of the Monterey trips with us. I spent some time
with him in this car and was impressed at how is runs on the track, just
like a go kart. |

| Above
is a photo of all the SoCal SAAC guys in attendance with their cars, except
Bob Marek, who had to take off early. Left to right are: Craig Wright, Tom
Brooks, Jeff Hixson, Wayne Hadaway, Guy Fugiwara, and Minh Duong. Wayne's
Bondurant Mustang is just peaking around behind Minh. |
